Finding Sufficient Fury to Post Something Political

Comments

I, a proud America, fully support Obama and the executive orders. 'Bout time we stop getting away with nasty deeds.
Yeah - who cares if its a political move? I look at it as our Holocaust. If we don't close it down, it's going to be the thing our kids and grandkids will ask us - why didn't you stop it? Well now we can proudly say we did - we stopped it by electing an ethical man.

I don't know if I agree with you that the allegations of torture are probably not as bad as people say, that's interesting. My instinct is that its probably far worse than we can imagine. Particularly the psychological torture that goes on. There is a reason they call them "secret" prisons. We simply just don't know. And that can't be good.

The counter argument to that is that guys like Rush Gassbag have been to Guantanamo and have said that everything is hunky dory. I prefer not to be led into that trap of "who's more credible" because that's playing by their rules and I prefer to work with facts that can't be challenged.

I'm glad too. I'd like to see America known internationally for the things I admire about her.
well sure. mine is just a gut instinct.
I know Obama will do the best he can for the people! Go Obama, I am proud that you are our president of this great countrt.
[this is good]
There is an old saying: "Add a teaspoon of wine to a barrel of garbage and you still have garbage. Add a teaspoon of garbage to a barrel of wine and you have garbage".

Our allowing torture under any circumstances was adding a teaspoon of garbage to our otherwise good reputation. It didn't get us any new information, it didn't make our enemies quit, and it didn't make us any new friends. Instead, it emboldened our enemies, turned friends into enemies, and gave us garbage information. All in all, it was the must screwed-up thing we could have done [1].

I am glad that Obama made this change, and even gladder that he made it so quickly.

[1] What is truly sad is that we have known better since WWII, when we treated the German prisoners with kindness and humanity, and reaped a flood of information as a result.

Thanks John. I'm very impressed that he gave this order so quickly as well, especially since it wasn't a huge campaign promise with him.

Good post! I think it lacking for evidence to support some points. And, some comments extreme silly comparsions. Next to last paragraph very insightful. Again, good post.

Thanks for the comment, I'm interested which points you see as lacking evidence. Sometimes I link my writing to back up my points, but in this circumstance I was lazy and didn't. As for silly comparisons, I try to keep my political writing light so it's an easy read, though the Ron Paul thing I think is fairly close to the situation here. The Republican party is in tatters over this, evidence of this is shown in the fact that they couldn't produce a viable candidate to fall behind and were subsequently beaten by an extremely divided Democratic party this past election. This issue hurt them and continues to do so, it's shown poor leadership and has upset both civilians, servicemen and the international community. Though if you have another take on it, I'd be glad to hear it.
