How's your XHTML/CSS? It's pretty easy to pick up / brush up using the courses at w3schools.com. As to designing something that isn't fugly - that is left to talent. It is for that very reason that I don't do it.

XHTM/CSS are nonexistant. I can tweak the sizes in an embed... but that's the best I can do. Even basic stuff like properly quoting someone in a forum is a pain in the ass. I will have to learn it eventually. As for graphics talent... I do have some once I understand the fundamentals. I am reasonably creative as I'm a 100% self-taught writer. It's just being not-lazy and teaching myself that is the annoying bit.

Seriously, if you're a bit on the creative side, it's worth your time to pick up some basic XHTML/CSS. XHTML is just HTML with a few changes to make some new browsers happy. You can really learn it in just a couple of hours. Once you have the basics, it's easier to just learn through practice. Feel free to pick my brain on effects questions - just don't expect any ideas for attractive design. :-) I have built some very usable, 508 compliant, and butt-ugly websites in my time.

By the way, are you going to be using some software with customizable templates, or will you be building everything from scratch?

Did you ever get my PM about that service Ken suggested? It offers templates or code editing, it seemed pretty great.

I live just outside London, but still on the tube. And yes, the look is doubly good as I could, if I wanted to, go and see the very places drawn.

I have not done that yet, but it is a long weekend here this weekend, Husband is diving and I have nowt to do, so I might go and take some photos. If I do, I will blog them.
